Having thought carefully about how learning builds throughout the time that children are at Worksop Priory C of E Primary Academy, teachers have built a programme of study from Early Years to Year 6, which 'grows' with pupils as they get older. Core subjects, like Maths and English, already have their own sequences of lessons planned as part of our schemes. However, for each foundation subject, each unit of work is also carefully planned to ensure new learning builds on old learning.

To ensure that this happens in sequences of lessons within each unit of work, teachers use Essential Learning Summaries to identify which knowledge and vocabulary are being revisited and which is new. This ensures that pupils have a chance to remember their prior learning and add to it in their new learning. Essential Learning Summaries also help teachers to identify the precise knowledge and vocabulary to be covered in individual lessons, plus how they are going to facilitate this.
